Kent Golf News: Bartarya Third in the English Girls U16 Stroke Play

A strong week for Kent's women and girls. The county's amateur champion came within a shot of a national playoff, the second team took the points in a downpour at Crowborough, and thirty pairs contested a foursomes trophy first played for in 1966. The juniors also settled the last twenty places for the season's biggest day out.

Selina Bartarya finishes tied third in the English Girls U16

Selina Bartarya of Royal Blackheath, the reigning Kent Women's Amateur champion, finished tied third in the English Girls U16 Stroke Play Championship at Gog Magog, one shot away from a place in the playoff. She also posted the lowest single round of the tournament, a 67. Bella Watson of Langley Park finished 17th in the U14 championship at the same venue. Source: Kent Golf.

Kent's women beat Sussex, with the Stovold Trophy still live

Kent's women's second team won 6½-2½ away to Sussex at Crowborough Beacon, in a day that started with more rain than the county had seen in two months and finished hot and humid. Kent led 2-1 after the foursomes through Ellen Wilson and Jen Hunt, who won 2&1, and Rosie Jones and Claudia Carlotti, who won 1 up.

The afternoon singles settled it quickly: Kim Morris won 8&6, Ellen Wilson 6&4 and Jen Hunt 7&6, with a further point from Claudia Carlotti at 4&3 and a half from Philippa North. Hampshire, who have won all three of their matches, visit Chislehurst on Thursday 27 August, and a Kent win there would put the Stovold Trophy within reach. Source: Kent Golf.

Ashford take the Doxford Salvers at Kings Hill

Thirty pairs entered this year's Doxford Foursomes at Kings Hill, a 27-hole women's competition first played in 1966 and one of the better-supported dates in the county calendar. Mary Daly and Pauline Pfeffer of Ashford won the Doxford Salvers with 65 points, one clear of Amanda Rose and Pat Morecroft of Nizels. Daly and Pfeffer also took the Doxford Horses for the best 18-hole score of the day, 45 points.

Over the morning nine, Karen Pickering and Coralie Butcher of Ashford led on 22 points from Anna Cooper and Kim Hansell on 21. The 18-hole prize went to Tracyann Wood and Debbie Huckstepp of Ashford on 43, a point clear of Dartford's Jill Oliver and Sharon Kent. Source: Kent Golf.

Twenty juniors qualify for Royal St George's

Forty-five single-figure juniors played the final Race to St George's qualifier at Sene Valley, a par 71 of 6,232 yards from the back tees that rewards placement over length. Toby Colville posted the best gross of the day with a 72, one ahead of Marley Klosek and Quinn Jameson. Oliver Cousins won the nett with a 67, three clear of Louis Garvey, with Blake Mason third on 71.

That completes the field of twenty for the final at Royal St George's on 29 October. Elsewhere, Anne Wheble of Dartford, Kent Golf's golf manager, has been selected for England at the European Senior Women's Team Championship from 1 to 5 September and the Senior Home Internationals from 15 to 17 September.
