Kent Golf News: Bignell Takes the U25 Title in a Knole Park Playoff

Your round-up of recent Kent golf, 15 August 2026

A busy week for Kent's younger golfers, and a mixed one. The county's U25 championship went to a playoff on hard, hot ground at Knole Park, the junior girls came home from Surrey unbeaten, and a very young U13 side took the long view at Hever Castle. Here is the round-up.

Abe Bignell wins the U25 Championship in a playoff

Forty-eight players took on 36 holes of strokeplay at Knole Park on 12 August in hot conditions, and it came down to extra holes. Abe Bignell of Rochester & Cobham Park posted 139, one under par, and beat Max Moseley of Knole Park at the first playoff hole after the pair finished level. Five players tied at level par on 140, with Oscar Ford of Bearsted taking third on countback. In the Handicap Challenge Cup, Toby Colville of Prince's won with a net 134, three shots clear of Elliott Flisher of Ashford. Source: Kent Golf.

Kent's junior girls go unbeaten at County Match Week

Kent's junior girls won the South Region title at The Drift Golf Club in Surrey between 9 and 12 August, and did it without losing a match. They beat Hampshire 5-2, Sussex 6½-½ and Middlesex 7-0 before seeing off hosts Surrey, with Selina Bartarya and Teagan Ford among the winners in the closing match and Bella Watson adding a half. The nine-player squad drew on Royal Blackheath, Langley Park, Chart Hills, Wildernesse, Faversham, Prince's and Cherry Lodge, and included two rookies in Phoebe Bright and Ella Lewis, under captain Skye Fontanelli, team manager Cheryl Power and coach Anna Smith. A young Kent U13 side finish third in the Triple Shield

The U13 Triple Shield final at Hever Castle on 12 August went to Surrey on 25 points, with Sussex second on 21 and Kent third on 14. The result reads better with the ages attached: Kent fielded a notably young team, including a nine-year-old and several ten and eleven-year-olds, against older and more experienced opposition on burnt-out fairways.
