Kent Golf News: Sussex Take First League Title Since 2007

The county league season reached its climax in the first week of August, and it went Sussex’s way rather than Kent’s. There was better news elsewhere: a Kent regular defended one of the county’s Order of Merit titles, and a Royal Blackheath teenager ran away with a national junior event. Here is the round-up.
Sussex win their first county league title since 2007
Kent’s men could not stop Sussex claiming the county league title in the closing match, played at Goodwood’s Park Course. Sussex swept the morning foursomes 4-0 and, with the afternoon singles halved 4-4, that first session settled it. It was Sussex’s first league title since 2007, secured on a weekend when all four competing counties still had a mathematical chance going in. Source: Kent Golf.
Danny Jones retains the Waterford Trophy
Danny Jones of Wildernesse defended the Waterford Trophy at Sundridge Park’s West Course on 3 August, following an opening 67 with a 69 for a two-under total and a second win in a row in this Kent Order of Merit event. The result lifts him to third in the Order of Merit standings on 88 points, behind Michael Vandenberg of Canterbury on 104 and Liam Burns of Chislehurst. Source: Kent Golf.
Selina Bartarya wins Bronte Law Junior Series by 14 shots
Royal Blackheath’s Selina Bartarya dominated the Bronte Law Junior Series at Edgbaston Golf Club, winning by 14 shots with rounds of 67, 72 and 69 for a 208 total. She was the only player in the field to break par in the opening round and closed with another under-par 69. Emma Kwan of Chart Hills was the next Kent name, tied for tenth on 236. Source: Kent Golf.
