Kent Golf News: July 2026
Your round-up of recent Kent golf, 18 July 2026
A busy week for Kent golf, on the county fairways and the wider stage. A Canterbury captain led England to a European medal, a Nizels golfer landed a county title at Dartford, and the season’s third major arrived at Royal Birkdale with a Kent thread running through the field. Here is the round-up for golfers across the county.
Canterbury’s Angela Jones captains England to European bronze
Angela Jones of Canterbury Golf Club captained England to a bronze medal at the European Ladies’ Team Championship, held at PGA National Slieve Russell in Ballyconnell, Ireland, from 7 to 11 July. England closed out their week with a 4.5 to 2.5 win over Finland in the third-place match, with Spain taking the title. It is a fine result for the county, with one of Kent’s clubs represented in the captain’s role. Source: Kent Golf.
Nikki Jones wins the Kent Senior Women’s Strokeplay at Dartford
Nikki Jones of Nizels won the 2026 Kent Senior Women’s Strokeplay Championship, played over two days at a dry and sunny Dartford Golf Club on 14 and 15 July. She led after an opening 74 and added a 75 on the second day, a round that featured a chip-in birdie on the last, to finish comfortably clear and also collect the Handicap Plate. Four-time champion Kim Morris of Sundridge Park took the runner-up spot with two rounds of 77. Jones will now represent Kent at the Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa in September. The Open reaches Royal Birkdale, with a Kent qualifying link
The 154th Open is being played from 16 to 19 July at Royal Birkdale in Southport, the season’s third major and the biggest week in the golfing calendar. Kent has a hand in the field: Royal Cinque Ports at Deal was one of four Final Qualifying venues, and its 36-hole shoot-out on 30 June sent five players through to Birkdale, among them Matthew Southgate, Antoine Rozner and Peter Uihlein.
